Analytics software flags iffy accounting

by Rick Turoczy on April 1, 2005

Financial policing software developed by Canada’s ACL Services Ltd. is helping companies comply with tougher laws passed in the wake of the Enron Corp. accounting scandal. The technology, known as business assurance analytics, keeps close tabs on a company’s business transactions. It ensures compliance with legislation such as the U.S. Sarbanes-Oxley Act, which lays out new specifications for accounting accuracy among publicly traded companies.

Sarbanes-Oxley, Canada’s own Bill 198, and similar laws in other countries have broadened the market for Vancouver-based ACL, which develops audit and data analysis software. The 18-year-old company markets its technology to the government, auditors, controllers and compliance officers at Fortune 5000 companies.
