Sen. Santorum to Highlight NIRI Panel Discussion On Sarbanes-Oxley Act April 18 in Pittsburgh

by Rick Turoczy on April 4, 2005

U.S. Sen. Rick Santorum, R-Pennsylvania, will speak about the landmark Sarbanes-Oxley Act to highlight an April 18 panel discussion sponsored here by the National Investor Relations Institute’s Pittsburgh Chapter. Santorum is a member of the Senate Banking Committee, which shaped the Sarbanes-Oxley Act in 2002 to restore confidence in the U.S. financial markets after a string of financial reporting scandals.

“Since then, this legislation has drawn a great deal of both praise and criticism,” said Thomas F. Hoffman, president of NIRI-Pittsburgh and vice president, investor and public relations at CONSOL Energy Inc. in Pittsburgh. “We’re looking forward to an excellent discussion on how Sarbanes-Oxley has changed the way companies interact with the financial markets in Pittsburgh and across the nation, and any future legislative changes that might be considered.”

In addition to Santorum, the expert panel will include: Joanne O’Rourke Hindman, Special Advisor to the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board; Joseph Diggins, Partner, Ernst & Young Business Risk Services; Michael Fox, Vice President Finance at Pittsburgh-based iGate Corp; and William Lyons, Chief Financial Officer at CONSOL Energy in Pittsburgh.
