Companies hire ‘inside cops’ to protect them from wrongdoing

by Rick Turoczy on May 31, 2006

Hawaii’s publicly traded companies are hiring a new set of executives whose job is to stop fraud and be a deterrent to corporate wrongdoing.

More than simply superauditors, these so-called “inside cops” have been given unprecedented power to police senior managers and protect the reputation of their company.

Unlike old-style ombudsmen, compliance managers and ethics officers who reported to managers far down the ladder, these new executives report directly to the board’s audit committee and can quiz any manager from the chief executive on down.
